  2. There are alot of different birth defect, but one I kind of know about is premature. My cousin Prentice was born very premature he was in a hostpital for a long time and had a fine childhood. Another case was my mom had a baby premature when I was younger and it didnt make it. I also know a girl who was born premature and she is very short and petite.

  4. A birth defect can be caused on how the mother acts with the baby. If she's smoking, drinking, or maybe even do drugs sometimes the baby will suffer because of this. Perhaps he gets mental retardation, or other mental problems.

Birth defects could also occur to children whose mothers didn't get checkups from doctors, to see if something was wrong with the child. Normal checkups are needed because they help see if the child is developing all right, if the mother ignored this the baby might have problems physically or mentally.

More problems could occur because maybe that type of disability is transferred through the family. Those type of birth defects often times are the worst just because the mother feels like it's her fault; and she can't do anything about it.

Birth defects are quite awful, often times they are the parents fault, but sometimes they are passed down through generations.

  6. This could depend on what the parents do or the genetics of the parents. If the mother is drinking, that can cause fetal alcohol syndrome. Also, drinking caffine and using drugs, legal or not, will mess the baby up.

  9. Birth defects can stem from many different things. The most talked about, or so I think, is FAS. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, is when the mother drinks alcohol while pregnant. The effects can be, abnormalities on the child's body, mental retardation, or just overall slow functioning.

Doing drugs and smoking can effect the baby, too. Not getting regular check-ups with your doctor to know what type of progress or if the baby is growing at the corrrect pace, can stunt the knowledge of new mothers.

Genetis can play a role in birth defects. I know a little girl who has Down Syndrome from her mother's side of the family. It is really quite sad.
